Our Story

A pre-school built around the way small people actually learn.

We believe children do their best work through play. So at St. Augustine's, the day is built around curiosity, conversation and hands-on discovery — not worksheets. Our Grade R follows the CAPS curriculum, grounding every playful moment in the milestones your child is meant to reach before big school.

And because peace of mind is part of the package, our premises are CCTV-monitored throughout the day — so your little one is safe, seen, and free to be themselves.

Why Families Choose Us

Big promises kept by small, careful choices.

CCTV-monitored throughout

Every corner of our premises is watched during operating hours, so your child is safe and you can get through your workday without worry.

Play-based learning

Children learn through play — the way their brains are wired to. We let them explore, try, fail kindly, and try again.

CAPS curriculum

Our Grade R year is aligned to the CAPS curriculum, so your child arrives at big school genuinely ready to learn.

A warm, welcoming team

Our families describe us as friendly and reliable — two things a parent handing over their child every morning deserve to feel without question.

Questions

Things parents ask us.

What age is Grade R for?

Grade R is the reception year before Grade 1 — typically for children turning six in that year. Talk to us about whether your child is ready and where they fit in our group.

How do you keep children safe during the day?

Our premises are CCTV-monitored throughout operating hours. Children are supervised at all times, and access to the building is controlled so strangers don't simply wander in.

What does "play-based learning" actually mean?

It means children learn counting, language, motor skills and social skills through structured play, stories, art and exploration — not by sitting at a desk filling in worksheets. It's how their brains are wired to absorb the most.

Is your Grade R curriculum recognised?

Yes. We follow the CAPS curriculum, so the milestones your child reaches with us line up with what's expected when they walk into Grade 1 at a primary school in South Africa.

What are your hours and where are you?

We're in Durban, open Monday to Friday 08:30–17:00, and Saturdays 09:00–13:00. Sundays we're closed. Use the form below to ask about a specific day or to arrange a visit.
